Astrophysics

Astrophysics

Astrophysics enables planet colonization. You start with 3 colony slots at level 0, then gain one additional slot per level.

Overview

Property Value
Type Expansion Technology
Lab Notes Research Lab level affects speed only
Prerequisites Research Lab 3 (section 1 has no cross-tech prerequisite chain)

Description

Astrophysics research enables the discovery and colonization of new worlds.

Effects

Maximum Colonies

Max Colonies = 3 + Astrophysics Level

This is the number of colonies you can hold in addition to your homeworld.

Colony Table

Level Max Colonies
0 3
1 4
2 5
3 6
5 8
10 13
15 18
20 23

Research Costs

Formula

Metal = 4,000 * 1.75^(Level - 1)
Crystal = 8,000 * 1.75^(Level - 1)
Deuterium = 4,000 * 1.75^(Level - 1)

Cost Table

Level Metal Crystal Deuterium
1 4,000 8,000 4,000
2 7,000 14,000 7,000
4 21,438 42,875 21,438
8 201,587 403,174 201,587
10 617,358 1,234,716 617,358

Availability

Astrophysics is a section 1 research, so once your planet has Research Lab 3 you can start it without any additional cross-tech chain.

Colonization

Requirements

To colonize a new planet:

  1. Astrophysics level for colony slot
  2. Colony Ship built
  3. Target empty planet position

Colony Process

  1. Send Colony Ship to empty coordinates
  2. Ship lands and establishes colony
  3. New planet appears in your empire
  4. Begin building on new colony

Strategy

Expansion Priority

More colonies = more production:

  • Each colony adds resource income
  • Specialized planets (deuterium, fleet)
  • Essential for growth

Research Path

  • Level 0: Up to 3 colonies
  • Level 1: Up to 4 colonies
  • Level 2: Up to 5 colonies
  • Level 3: Up to 6 colonies
  • Level 10+: Empire scaling

Note on Expeditions

Expedition missions are not available in the current game implementation.
