Hyperspace Drive
Hyperspace Drive enables faster-than-light travel and boosts the speed of all ships.
Overview
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Propulsion Technology |
| Lab Notes | Research Lab level affects speed only |
| Effect | +30% speed per level (all ships), +10% fuel per level |
| Prerequisites | Section 2 unlock requirement (8 cumulative section 1 levels) |
Description
Hyperspace Drive warps space-time to achieve faster-than-light travel. Every level increases the speed of all ships, but it also raises deuterium consumption across your entire fleet.
Effect
Speed Bonus
All ships gain the Combustion, Impulse, and Hyperspace bonuses:
Speed = Base Speed * (1 + 0.1 * Combustion Level + 0.2 * Impulse Level + 0.3 * Hyperspace Level)
Fuel Consumption
Impulse and Hyperspace research increase fuel usage for every ship:
Fuel = Base Fuel * (1 + 0.05 * Impulse Level + 0.10 * Hyperspace Level)
Hyperspace-Only Speed Multiplier
Combustion and Impulse bonuses stack on top of these values.
| Level | Speed Multiplier |
|---|---|
| 0 | 100% |
| 1 | 130% |
| 2 | 160% |
| 5 | 250% |
| 10 | 400% |
| 15 | 550% |
Ships Using Hyperspace Drive
All ships benefit from Hyperspace Drive, but these ships list it as their primary drive.
Speeds below show the Hyperspace bonus only; add Combustion and Impulse on top.
| Ship | Base Speed | At Hyperspace 10 |
|---|---|---|
| Battleship | 10,000 | 40,000 |
| Battlecruiser | 12,000 | 48,000 |
| Destroyer | 7,000 | 28,000 |
| Deathstar | 1,000 | 4,000 |
Drive Upgrades
Some ships switch to Hyperspace at certain levels:
- Bomber: Hyperspace at Level 8
- Recycler: Hyperspace at Level 13+
The Hyperspace speed bonus applies to all ships even before these upgrades.
Research Costs
Formula
Metal = 10,000 * 2^Level
Crystal = 20,000 * 2^Level
Deuterium = 6,000 * 2^Level
Cost Table
| Level | Metal | Crystal | Deuterium |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10,000 | 20,000 | 6,000 |
| 2 | 20,000 | 40,000 | 12,000 |
| 5 | 160,000 | 320,000 | 96,000 |
| 10 | 5,120,000 | 10,240,000 | 3,072,000 |
Availability
Hyperspace Drive opens once you have reached the section 2 threshold in the focus trees.
Strategy
Late-Game Priority
Hyperspace Drive is essential for:
- Capital ship operations
- Long-range attacks
- Rapid response
Speed Advantage
30% per level is significant (plus the Combustion and Impulse bonuses on top):
- Level 5 = 2.5x speed
- Level 10 = 4x speed
- Dominates travel time calculations
Fuel Tradeoff
Hyperspace Drive increases deuterium consumption by 10% per level for all ships. This stacks with the Impulse fuel penalty, so long-range missions get more expensive as you level both.
Fleet Speed
Fleet moves at slowest ship speed:
- Deathstar is very slow (base 1,000)
- Even at Hyperspace 15, Deathstar limits fleet
- Consider separate attack waves
