Computer Technology

Computer Technology expands fleet command-and-control capacity. Every even level grants additional active fleet mission slots.

Overview

Property Value
Type Computing Technology
Lab Notes Research Lab level affects speed only
Effect +2 fleet slots at each even level

Description

Computer Technology represents breakthroughs in command networks, navigation processors, and fleet coordination systems. These computers let your empire manage more simultaneous operations without overloading its mission-control infrastructure.

Only even levels add mission capacity, so the main breakpoints are levels 2, 4, 6, and beyond.

Effect

Mission Capacity Breakpoints

Level Fleet Slot Bonus
1 +0
2 +2
3 +2
4 +4
6 +6
10 +10

Research Costs

Formula

Metal = 0
Crystal = 400 * 2^Level
Deuterium = 600 * 2^Level

Cost Table

Level Crystal Deuterium
1 400 600
2 800 1,200
5 6,400 9,600
10 204,800 307,200

Fleet Slots

Fleet slot formula:

Fleet Slots = 5
            + (2 * floor(Computer Technology Level / 2))
            + Recon Technology Level
            + Wayfinder Research Level
            + (2 * Space Dock Research Level)

Examples:

  • Computer 0, Recon 0, Wayfinder 0, Space Dock 0: 5 slots
  • Computer 2, Recon 0, Wayfinder 0, Space Dock 0: 7 slots
  • Computer 4, Recon 1, Wayfinder 2, Space Dock 1: 14 slots

Strategy

Active Fleets

Computer Technology is strongest for players who want more simultaneous missions:

  • Level 2: First +2 slot breakpoint
  • Level 4: Enough room for more farming, fleetsaves, or scouting overlap
  • Higher even levels: Scale command capacity alongside Recon, Wayfinder, and Space Dock research

Timing

Odd levels are still useful as prerequisites, but the direct fleet-slot payoff happens on even levels. Plan your upgrades around those breakpoints if you need immediate mission capacity.
